Barcelona’s Liceu Cancels Aida Performances Amid Severe Weather Alert

Severe weather warnings forced Barcelona’s Liceu to cancel two performances.

Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu cancelled its 6 p.m. performance of Verdi’s Aida on Saturday, 3 October 2026, following a severe weather alert and instructions from the authorities.

In a statement, the opera house said the decision followed a warning from CECAT, Catalonia’s emergency coordination centre. The performance was expected to finish after 8 p.m., when restrictions were due to take effect.

The theatre also cancelled the 11 a.m. performance of La jove Aïda on Sunday, 4 October. It said it would contact ticket holders for both cancelled performances to explain the available options, and apologised for the inconvenience.

Sunday’s main Aida performance at 5 p.m. remained scheduled because it fell outside the restrictions. In a subsequent update, the Liceu acknowledged that travel could still be difficult and offered affected spectators the opportunity to request a change of performance by Friday, 9 October.

The cancellations formed part of widespread disruption to cultural events across Barcelona and surrounding areas. Concerts, theatre performances and other events were called off as organisers responded to forecasts of heavy rain and stormy conditions. Other affected venues included the Palau de la Música, L’Auditori and several major theatres.
