Free Opera and Ballet at Helsinki Airport

Finavia and the Finnish National Opera and Ballet have launched a unique cultural experience at Helsinki Airport, offering passengers free access to opera and ballet performances. Starting September 17, 2024, visitors can enjoy snippets of these art forms projected on a large screen at the airport train station.

The installation, named the Culture Stage, showcases excerpts from performances at the Opera House in Töölönlahti, including ballets like Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, and operas such as Tosca, Turandot, and Don Giovanni. The 12-meter wide by 6.5-meter tall screen, complemented by a carefully curated soundscape, is visible from the escalators connecting the train station and terminal, ensuring that both departing and arriving passengers can partake in this cultural offering.

Ulla Serlenius, Finavia's Helsinki Airport Executive Director, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, noting that with over 15 million travelers each year, the Culture Stage will enhance the travel experience for many. Gita Kadambi, General Director of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet, added that the airport provides an unexpected yet excellent venue for sharing their domestic and international repertoire.

The Culture Stage joins other artistic installations at Helsinki Airport, such as the nature diorama Luoto and the immersive Aukio space, all designed to celebrate Finnish culture.
