Gardiner and Intermusica End Their Management Relationship
The agency confirms an October separation.

Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Intermusica ended their management relationship in October 2026, concluding a collaboration that the agency described in positive terms.
Intermusica’s statement wished the conductor and the Constellation Choir & Orchestra success in the future. It did not give a reason for the separation or identify a new management arrangement. The confirmed development is therefore an agency change, rather than an announced withdrawal from performing.
Gardiner remains artistic director of the Constellation Choir & Orchestra, the ensemble established in August 2024. Its wider Springhead Constellation project connects music with interests in philosophy, science and the natural world, providing an institutional setting for his current activity.
An advertised appearance at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw on 7 December presents a Christmas programme spanning five centuries. Such forward programming is distinct from the question of who represents the conductor professionally; the agency statement itself did not announce cancellations.
The Constellation project followed Gardiner’s separation from the Monteverdi ensembles, with which his earlier career had been closely associated. The new management development adds another change to the organisation around his work, but there is no stated basis for assigning the October split to a particular disagreement or incident.
For presenters, representation covers the practical arrangements surrounding engagements, while artistic direction concerns the work of an ensemble. Those responsibilities can intersect, but the end of one contractual relationship does not automatically determine the other.
At 83, Gardiner continues to be identified publicly with his new choir and orchestra. The immediate questions concern how future engagements will be managed and whether a replacement agency will be announced. Until further information is released, the available facts support a limited conclusion: a longstanding management association has ended, while the Constellation organisation and advertised concert activity remain the context for his conducting work.
