Ivan Nikiforchin Appointed Artistic Director of Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra (MAGASO)

Ivan Nikiforchin has been named the artistic director of the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra (MAGASO), as announced by the Russian Ministry of Culture on August 14, 2024. MAGASO, founded in 1943, has had a rich history of leadership by notable Soviet conductors, including Lev Shteinberg, Veronika Dudarova, and Pavel Kogan.

Nikiforchin, born in 1995 in Moscow, is a graduate of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatoire, where he studied under Professors Valery Polyansky and Yuri Abdokov. He is an award-winning conductor, having received honors such as the First International Rachmaninoff Competition and the International Pure Sound Awards.

Nikiforchin has frequently collaborated with MAGASO and other leading Russian orchestras, including the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra. He is also the founder and principal conductor of the Academy of Russian Music and has been teaching at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire since 2022.
