Lyric Symphonists ‘Save’ Verona Opera Festival

‘Despite the seriousness of the almost 20-year absence of a contractual renewal,’ the unions with the Coordinamento Unitario, formed by delegates of the Orchestra Professors, Chorus Artists, Tersicorei, Maestri Collaboratori, Technicians, Clerks, and Administrative staff, have decided ‘not to field protest actions that would prejudice the June 7 event to be held at the Arena di Verona’ to celebrate the world of Italian opera.

The union, however, remains mobilized and, after that date, will evaluate ‘all the necessary initiatives to accelerate the completion of the validation process’ of the contract.

Precisely because of the ‘importance for the sector’ that it identifies, all the workers, professionalism, undisputed priority, and attention to the public, the lyrical-symphonic workers have decided not to jeopardize the event that, among other things, ‘will bring the highest offices of the State and the entire world of Culture to celebrate Opera Singing and the World of Italian Opera.’

‘As of 30 November 2023, more than six months have elapsed since the signing of the 2019/2021 contract, with no timetable foreseen. This situation is unacceptable and lacks justification. It is, in fact, further penalizing the workers of the Lyric Symphonic Foundations and delaying the confrontation on the renewal of the three-year period 2022/2024,’ highlight the workers’ organizations.
