Mid Wales Opera has launched an emergency fundraising appeal following a funding cut by Arts Council Wales in September 2023. Although their appeal was rejected later that year, the opera company received £75,906 from Powys County Council’s grant program to support local creative industries.
To bridge the funding gap, Mid Wales Opera aims to raise £50,000 and has already secured £20,000. Board Chair Gareth Williams expressed optimism in a press release, highlighting the potential for a three-year program, including SmallStages tours and school outreach. He emphasized the need for an additional £50,000 over the next nine months and noted the generosity of two anonymous donors.
Founded in 1989, Mid Wales Opera tours opera performances across mid Wales. This season featured Verdi’s "Macbeth" in various locations, including Hafren, Newtown, and Aberystwyth. Donations can be made through the CAF page on their website.
