Teatro Real Moves Figaro Performance Ahead of General Strike

The 11 November audience is transferred to 9 November.

Madrid’s Teatro Real has brought forward a performance of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro to avoid disruption expected from a general strike.

The performance originally scheduled for 11 November will now take place on 9 November at the same time, 7.30pm. The change responds to anticipated transport difficulties and road disruption that could affect audiences travelling to the theatre.

Tickets issued for 11 November are valid for the replacement date without an additional exchange. The theatre also offered exchange or refund options for patrons unable to attend, with a stated deadline of 4 November. That deadline has now passed, so it should not be presented as an open-ended offer.

The decision is a rescheduling of one performance, rather than cancellation of the entire production or an announcement that the opera company itself is taking strike action. Its stated rationale is the likely impact of the wider stoppage on access to the venue.

For an opera house, moving a date involves more than changing a listing. Performers, orchestral and stage work, technical preparation and front-of-house staffing all have to align with the replacement evening. The public notice confirms the new time and ticket validity but does not describe the internal adjustments required.

For audiences, the immediate practical point is the two-day advance. Someone relying on the original ticket date could otherwise miss the performance, even though the ticket remains valid. Patrons with unresolved questions should use the theatre’s current customer-service information rather than assume that the expired exchange window still applies.

The change illustrates how events outside an arts institution can determine its performance calendar. Teatro Real is attempting to preserve the scheduled production for its audience by moving it away from anticipated travel disruption. The replacement remains 9 November at 7.30pm, with other performances in the run not altered by this particular notice.
