Crocus City Hall Will Not Be Restored

Moscow region authorities have decided not to restore Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, following its destruction in a terrorist attack on March 22, 2024. Governor Andrey Vorobyev announced that the site will be converted into a memorial.

Earlier statements from Vorobyov in June indicated that a public garden with a monument might be established on the site, though the final development decision rests with the owner. The Russian State Duma supports the decision not to rebuild the hall. Emin Agalarov, son of Crocus Group owner Aras Agalarov, confirmed that a memorial will be created, either within a new hall or at the original site.

Crocus City Hall, a multi-level concert venue with a capacity of up to 9500, was opened in October 2009 by Aras Agalarov. It hosted numerous high-profile events, including the Miss Universe 2013 pageant. The terrorist attack during a concert by the band "Picnic" resulted in at least 145 deaths and significant structural damage, with estimated losses of around 10 billion rubles.
