Frankfurt Cultural Institutions Receive Major Funding

Commerzbank is supporting Frankfurt's cultural scene by providing significant funding to three key institutions. Over the next few years, the bank will allocate approximately £1.3 million to the Alte Oper, Schauspiel Frankfurt, and die Oper. Each institution will receive about £43,000 annually, distributed evenly over the next decade.

"Frankfurt is home to our headquarters, and Commerzbank is deeply rooted in the city. This long-term cultural funding reflects our commitment," the bank stated. Ina Hartwig, the city's head of cultural affairs (SPD), added, "This funding highlights our connection to the city and helps ensure financial stability for the institutions amid tight budgets."

The funding will kick off in the 2024/25 season, with specific projects planned. The Alte Oper will host the ‘Fratopia Festival’ from September 24 to 28, 2024, featuring nearly 250 short concerts ranging from Beethoven to Billie Eilish, all free to the public. At the Opera, Commerzbank will support the ‘Opera for Children’ series, while Schauspiel Frankfurt will debut ‘The Great Gatsby,’ adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's renowned novel, marking the beginning of this collaborative effort.
