Genoa's Carlo Felice Theater: Ongoing Unrest

A discussion table is set for Tuesday at the City Council's Labor Department, involving all labor unions to address issues at Carlo Felice Theater. A strike by the CGIL on Oct. 12 partially blocked the debut of the double show at the Ivo Chiesa Theater, highlighting ongoing tensions.

Technicians have reported “organizational difficulties,” exacerbated by having to manage three theaters simultaneously with reduced staff. Sonia Montaldo from CGIL noted that despite the end of Britten's opera performances, challenges persist for the Carlo Felice staff.

Following the strike, a meeting with Superintendent Claudio Orazi yielded no solutions, prompting a sit-in that led to an invitation for discussions with Councillor Mascia. Key issues include technical staffing, salary concerns, meal vouchers, and the need for a more appealing program. Snater's Anna Rita Cecchini emphasized the importance of including popular titles and engaging young audiences through schools to secure the theater's future.
