German Philharmonic Houses Report Audience Growth

The Theater und Philharmonie Essen attracted 306,000 visitors in the 2023/24 season, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Highlights include 78,000 attendees at the Aalto Music Theater, with Geisterritter drawing 5,000 viewers, and 37,000 guests for the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra’s 125th anniversary season. The Philharmonie Essen hosted over 80,000 for guest orchestras, and free events like “Park Sounds” further boosted outreach.

The Tonhalle Düsseldorf set a record with 5,791 subscriptions for 2024/25, led by the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra's "Sternzeichen" series. Growth was also seen in the chamber music series "Raumstation" (+13.1%) and satirical cabaret (+4.1%).

These milestones highlight the enduring appeal of classical music and performing arts in Germany.
