Haydn Orchestra in Bolzano Announces New Principal Conductor

The Haydn Orchestra in Bolzano has announced that Alessandro Bonato will assume the role of Principal Conductor starting in October 2025, leading the ensemble’s artistic development over the next three seasons.

Bonato will collaborate with Music Director Ottavio Dantone and Guest Conductor Thomas Dausgaard, contributing to both the orchestra’s symphonic concerts and opera productions.

He first gained international recognition at the age of 23 when he won third prize at the Malko International Conducting Competition in Copenhagen.

Born in Verona in March 1995, Bonato initially studied violin before shifting his focus to composition. From 2013 onward, he trained in conducting under Pier Carlo Orizio, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, and Donato Renzetti. In March 2016, he made his professional conducting debut at the Royal Opera House of Muscat with The Magic Flute.
