LA Opera Cancels Contemporary Opera Due to Budget Constraints

Los Angeles Opera has canceled the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s new opera Lincoln in the Bardo as part of cost-cutting measures. Originally scheduled to debut in Los Angeles in February 2026, the production—adapted from George Saunders’ novel—will now have its premiere at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in October 2026.
