Malkovich plays Celibidache

The film The Yellow Tie, featuring John Malkovich as the renowned conductor Sergiu Celibidache, has been completed, though its release date remains uncertain. A first poster for the biopic has been unveiled, highlighting Malkovich in the lead role. The script was co-written by Celibidache's son, Serge Celebidache, alongside James Olivier, with Serge also taking on the role of director.

Spanning seven decades of Celibidache's life, the film chronicles his journey from a troubled upbringing to becoming the conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Ben Schnetzer (3 Body Problem) portrays the conductor in his youth. The cast also includes Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean, who plays Celibidache's strict father. Bean's character disowns his son upon learning of his ambition to pursue a career in classical music. Miranda Richardson (Good Omens) stars as Celibidache's wife, Ioana, while Kate Phillips (Wolf Hall) portrays Ioana in her younger years.

"It was a great challenge and a steep learning curve to portray Sergiu Celibidache in the new film The Yellow Tie," Malkovich shared with the press. "Celibidache was a spectacularly talented, complex, and fickle character. I received immense support in this endeavor from his son, Serge, who skillfully directs the film, and from Konrad von Abel, who had the perhaps unenviable task of teaching me how to conduct. I was also fortunate to work with my colleague Miranda Richardson, whose work I greatly admire. The opportunity to work with her again was a long-held desire."
