The St Petersburg Council for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage has approved the renovation of the Sh. Z. Ioff House at 14 Lermontovsky Avenue. The project, overseen by the “Special Restoration Research and Design Institute,” aims to expand the city’s cultural infrastructure.

According to Deputy Governor Nikolay Linchenko, who shared the update on social media, the new hall will accommodate 800 spectators. The building’s roof ridge will be raised, and an underground space will be created for auxiliary functions.

Once the fourth stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on Lermontovsky Avenue is operational, the historic Mariinsky Theatre building (Mariinsky-1) will temporarily close for restoration. In the long term, the new venue will primarily be used for children’s performances and rehearsals.
