Metropolitan Opera Names Daniele Rustioni Principal Guest Conductor

The Metropolitan Opera has appointed 41-year-old Italian conductor Daniele Rustioni as Principal Guest Conductor for a three-year term starting in the 2025-26 season. Rustioni, only the third in the Met's 141-year history to hold this title, will conduct at least two operas per season.  

Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin welcomed Rustioni, citing their shared commitment to music and musicians. Rustioni will provide continuity during Nézet-Séguin's absences as the orchestra rebuilds after pandemic challenges.  

Rustioni debuted at the Met with Aida in 2017, with over 70 operas in his repertoire, Rustioni has an illustrious career across major opera houses, including his current role as Music Director at the Opéra de Lyon. "Following in the footsteps of giants like Arturo Toscanini is a career highlight," said Rustioni.
