More than 400 applications from 12 countries have been received for participation in theXXVII Glinka International Competition of Vocalists. The organisers have reviewed applications from singers in Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Lithuania, Mongolia, Russia, and Uzbekistan. The names of the 60 participants advancing to the first round will be announced on July 15.
"The acceptance of applications has ended, and my colleagues and I are eagerly anticipating the emergence of new stars in the opera world. We are excited to begin the selection process for the first round," said Albina Shagimuratova, chairperson of the competition jury and Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation.
The competition's prize fund has significantly increased thanks to Gazprombank. The event will take place at the Zaryadye Cultural Centre from October 8 to 16, 2024. The opening ceremony will feature performances by past laureates and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev. The competition is supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
