New artistic director for Cologne Philharmonie

Ewa Bogusz-Moore is to become the new artistic director of the Kölner Philharmonie. The trained cellist will take over from Louwrens Langevoort on 1 August 2025, the orchestra announced on Tuesday. Bogusz-Moore is ‘an extremely internationally experienced cultural manager’ for the position, said the Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of KölnMusik Betriebs- und Servicegesellschaft, Lord Mayor Henriette Reker (non-party).

Dutchman Langevoort's contract ends in summer 2025 after 20 years. His successor was selected from two candidates following an extensive application process. ‘She impressed me in the interviews with her outstanding professionalism and holistic approach to the artistic, programmatic and economic challenges of an international theatre,’ said Reker.

Bogusz-Moore was born in 1975 in Wroclaw, where she initially studied cello. She completed her degree in cultural management in London in 2005. She then worked at various festivals in the UK and institutions in her home country. Since 2018, she has been General Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio in Katowice. In 2022, she also became Co-Managing Director of the European Union Youth Orchestra.

As a cultural manager, also as a member of the European Concert Hall Organisation, she has observed ‘how much the music industry has changed in recent years and what new challenges we have to face’, explained Bogusz-Moore. ‘I believe that institutions like the Kölner Philharmonie are the platforms that bring people together and uplift the whole community.’ She is ‘looking forward to all the great things we can achieve together.’
