San Francisco Opera Orchestra Reaches Short Term Agreement

The San Francisco Opera Orchestra has reached a short-term contract extension with management. The agreement was announced just before the opening performance of Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, which launched the company's new season.

In a social media statement, the orchestra said, “While this is not the long-term contract our members deserve, the extension through September marks a step forward. It reflects a mutual commitment from both musicians and management to negotiate a multi-year agreement, something management had previously refused to consider.”

The orchestra emphasized the need for further progress, stating, “There is still much work to be done to secure a stable, long-term contract for both the musicians and the organization.”

The statement concluded with gratitude for the audience’s support and a promise to provide updates on the negotiations in the coming weeks. Alongside Un Ballo in Maschera, the San Francisco Opera season will feature performances of The Handmaid’s Tale and Tristan und Isolde, all of which will be streamed on the company’s website.
