Despite protests against Russian soprano Anna Netrebko's performances, she will star as Abigaille. Sobotka highlights "Der Freischütz" for Children as a special project, aiming to introduce kids to music and opera. The Staatskapelle Berlin will host eight subscription concerts, three under Thielemann's direction. For New Year's concerts, the new GMD will present music from Weimar-era films and theater instead of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
