Daniel Barenboim Appointed Honorary Principal Conductor Of The Staatskapelle Berlin

Daniel Barenboim was appointed honorary principal conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin by Christian Thielemann after his inaugural concert with the orchestra.

After Christian Thielemann gave his inaugural concert with the Staatskapelle Berlin (with pianist Igor Levit), his predecessor Daniel Barenboim was named honorary principal conductor of the Staatskapelle and honorary member of the Staatsoper. ‘Berlin owes you a great debt of gratitude,’ said Joe Chialo (CDU), Senator for Culture.

Barenboim said: ‘The gesture of these two honours fills me with happiness and gratitude, especially the title of Honorary Chief Conductor honours and moves me very much. I look back with gratitude and satisfaction on 30 years of making music together and remain warmly attached to the Staatsoper.’

At the end, he told the applauding audience: ‘I will sleep well tonight.’
