Dayner Tafur-Díaz Wins Karajan Academy Scholarship

Following a selection process at the Philharmonie Berlin, Dayner Tafur-Díaz has been announced as the winner of this year's Siemens Conductors Scholarship.

Following a selection process at the Philharmonie Berlin, Dayner Tafur-Díaz has been announced as the winner of this year's Siemens Conductors Scholarship. The 26-year-old conductor from Peru will begin his collaboration with the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker on October 1, 2024.

The scholarship includes project-based assistance for Kirill Petrenko as well as for guest conductors of the Karajan Academy and the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Dayner Tafur-Díaz settled in Germany in 2017. In October 2023, he won the German Conducting Prize, awarded jointly by the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra, and the Ensemble and International Opera Studio of the Cologne Opera.

In August 2022, he won first prize at the second edition of the International Opera Conducting Competition of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège (Belgium) and in November 2022, he secured second prize at the Conducting Competition of the University of Almería (Spain). He was also selected as one of the 20 finalists for the 2023 Mahler Competition.
