Denis Matsuev on how to help young musicians

In October 2024, Denis Matsuev hosted the festival "Denis Matsuev presents: Dialog of Generations" in Khabarovsk, where young artists performed alongside world-renowned musicians. Matsuev, a People's Artist of Russia and virtuoso pianist, shared his insights on supporting young talent.

He advised parents of children losing motivation for music lessons to ensure the child is surrounded by real music, not just popular radio tunes. He emphasized the importance of early exposure to music, even in the womb, and stressed that children should be allowed to follow their musical interests without pressure.

Matsuev also highlighted the role of support in developing talent, citing examples like Elysei Mysin, a young pianist from a non-musical family, and c, a scholarship recipient who overcame challenging living conditions to study music. He also shared his own childhood experience, recalling how his parents, both pianists, helped him develop his talent, despite his initial lack of interest in studying.

Matsuev's advice: young musicians need support, exposure to great music, and the freedom to pursue their passions. For him, music has always been a joy, and he still jumps with excitement before stepping on stage.
