Philippe Jordan to head Orchestre National de France from 2027

Philippe Jordan has been appointed Music Director of the Orchestre National de France (ONF) starting in 2027, succeeding Cristian Macelaru, who has held the role since 2020. The announcement was made during rehearsals for a program conducted by Jordan, featuring works by Olivier Messiaen and Anton Bruckner.

Jordan, 50, will begin a five-year term at the ONF after concluding his tenure as Music Director of the Vienna Staatsoper in 2025. He sees this appointment as a return to his roots in Paris, where he served as Music Director of the Paris Opera from 2009 to 2021. Jordan is excited to focus on the symphonic repertoire with the ONF, calling it an ideal partnership. He will also conduct Wagner's Tetralogy as part of his Vienna farewell concerts.
