Star conductor Barenboim cancels concerts again due to illness
Conductor Daniel Barenboim (82) has again canceled several performances with the Berlin Staatskapelle due to illness.

Conductor Daniel Barenboim (82) has again canceled several performances with the Berlin Staatskapelle due to illness. Guest conductor Philippe Jordan will take over the baton for Wagner concerts on Monday and Tuesday, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden announced. The program will remain unchanged.
Barenboim deeply regrets the cancellations, the statement said. “For more than three decades, he has significantly shaped the Staatskapelle as General Music Director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden; together they have realized more than 1,600 performances in Berlin and worldwide.”
Barenboim had also taken over the Staatskapelle as general music director of the Staatsoper in 1992, which achieved international renown under his direction. He will step down as musical director of the Staatsoper at the beginning of 2023 for health reasons. For some time now, Barenboim has been repeatedly absent due to illness.
