Deutsche Oper am Rhein Announces Interim Leadership
Following the early departure of General Director Christoph Meyer, the supervisory board of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein has approved an interim leadership plan.

Following the early departure of General Director Christoph Meyer, the supervisory board of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein has approved an interim leadership plan. As announced by the city of Düsseldorf on Wednesday, Opera Director Marwin Wendt will assume the role of acting Artistic Director starting April 1, 2025, while Managing Director Alexandra Stampler-Brown will take over as sole executive director during the transition period.
Born in Mannheim-Neckarau, Wendt has been serving as the General Director’s artistic representative since the 2020/21 season. Meyer, who has led the theater association of Düsseldorf and Duisburg since 2009, announced in December that he would step down on March 30, 2025, due to health reasons. His contract, originally extended in late 2021 to run through 2027, will now end prematurely.
The formal search for a new General Director, scheduled to be in place by the 2027/28 season, has already begun. The selection process is expected to conclude before the summer recess.
