Dubai to spend $8 billion creating a floating opera house

Dubai has announced the construction of a second opera house, the Venice Azizi Opera, a floating structure costing 30 billion dirhams (over $8 billion). Located in the Venice area to the south of the city, this 2,000-seat opera house will be built by the Azizi Group on the Crystal Lagoon, surrounded by fountains and waterfalls. Expected to open between 2025 and 2028, it will feature a unique golden design.

The new venue aims to attract local and international audiences with opera, ballet, concerts, and musicals. Promoter Mirwais Azizi envisions it as an "architectural masterpiece" and a cultural hub for electrifying performances.

This floating opera house joins the ranks of others like the Sydney Opera House's water performances and Austria's Bregenz Festival and Seebühne in Mörbisch am See, which offer shows on floating stages.
