Sir Antonio Pappano, the outgoing music director of the Royal Opera House (ROH), received a final pay rise of 30%, bringing his earnings to just under £940,000 for the year ending August 27, 2023. This increase is attributed to the higher number of performances he conducted as the schedule intensified post-Covid.
The ROH's accounts reveal that Chief Executive Alex Beard earned £343,000, while Kevin O’Hare, Director of the Royal Ballet, and Oliver Mears, Director of the Royal Opera, earned £262,174 and £232,842 respectively.
Revenues for the ROH surged to £170.7 million, up from £128.9 million in 2021-22, as the company employed 1,129 staff members.
