On March 24, 2025, Ed Sheeran wrote to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and government officials, calling for long-term funding for music education in the UK. This appeal comes after the launch of the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which aims to provide “inclusive, high-quality music education.”

The open letter has garnered over 500 signatures, including support from artists like Harry Styles and Coldplay. Sheeran is asking the government to invest £250 million in five key areas: school music funding, music teacher training, grassroots venue funding, and more.

He emphasized the importance of music education for culture, communities, the economy, and personal well-being, urging the government to take cross-departmental action to ensure music education no longer falls through the cracks. The Ed Sheeran Foundation has already supported 18 grassroots music education organizations, impacting over 12,000 children and young people.
