Gianandrea Noseda Extends Tenure with National Symphony Orchestra

Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda has extended his contract as Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) in Washington, D.C., through 2031.

The NSO announced that Noseda, who has led the orchestra since September 2017, has signed a four-year contract extension beyond the 2026–27 season, ensuring his leadership through the orchestra’s centennial celebrations in 2031.

“For nearly 95 years, the NSO has been a premier ensemble in our nation, bringing together top talent and showcasing new works by America’s finest composers,” Noseda said. “I am honored to continue this journey with these exceptional musicians as we approach the NSO’s 100th anniversary. Following in the footsteps of legends like Mstislav Rostropovich, Leonard Slatkin, and Antal Doráti, I am privileged to shape the orchestra’s sound for today while preserving its rich legacy.”
