HK Phil Announces Chief Executive Benedikt Fohr's Departure After 2024/25 Season

The Hong Kong Philharmonic has announced that Chief Executive Benedikt Fohr will leave his role at the end of the current season in July 2025. Fohr, who has served since April 2019, expressed gratitude to the orchestra, musicians, staff, and board for their collaboration during his tenure.  

Reflecting on his six years with the HK Phil, Fohr noted highlights such as the orchestra’s recovery from the pandemic, its 50th-anniversary celebrations, extensive tours across Asia and Europe, and the appointment of Tarmo Peltokoski as Music Director. “It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” he said, adding that after 30 years in arts leadership, he looks forward to new ventures.  

David Cogman, Chairman of the Board of Governors, praised Fohr’s leadership during challenging times, particularly through the pandemic and the European tour. “Benedikt leaves the orchestra stronger and more vibrant,” Cogman said.  

A search committee for Fohr’s successor will be convened soon.
