Israeli Orchestra Cancels Performances Amid Middle East Tensions

The Galilee Chamber Orchestra, a symbol of Muslim and Jewish coexistence, has canceled its upcoming performances in Neubrandenburg, Berlin, and Amsterdam following threats from Iran. Comprised of young musicians of both Arab and Jewish origins, the orchestra was founded in Nazareth in 2012 and has consistently advocated for peace.

The concerts were intended to promote peace and offer hope for an early resolution to the Gaza conflict. However, escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly the threat of an Iranian attack on Israel, prompted the orchestra and violinist Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider to cancel the performances. Israel has warned its adversaries of severe consequences if attacked.

Under the leadership of pianist and conductor Saleem Ashkar, the Galilee Chamber Orchestra unites musicians from across Israel, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, and Nazareth, as well as members of leading Israeli orchestras and other young talents.
