Malta Orchestra ordered to pay 141217 GBP to former conductor Brian Schembri

A court in Malta has ordered the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to pay £141,217 to former conductor Brian Schembri, who is 63 years old and originally from Malta, following the termination of his employment contract. Schembri was hired in 2013 on a three-year contract, which was renewed in 2016. The contract stipulated that if it were terminated, the National Orchestra would be required to pay three years' worth of salary. Schembri was dismissed from his position as artistic director and principal conductor of the MPO in 2017.

After considering both sides of the case, Judge Giovanni Grixti concluded that the orchestra had failed to prove its allegations. He ordered the company managing the orchestra to pay Schembri the awarded sum of £141,217.
