Palermo's Teatro Massimo ranks third among the world's most beautiful and important theaters, according to a Travel 365 survey of 100,000 users, following the Colon in Buenos Aires and La Scala in Milan. Mayor and Massimo Theatre Foundation President Roberto Lagalla expressed pride in the recognition, highlighting the administration's successful revitalization efforts. Superintendent and Artistic Director Marco Betta emphasized the theater's cultural significance and commitment to excellence.

Inaugurated in the late 19th century, Teatro Massimo is a major cultural landmark in Palermo, attracting over 200,000 visitors in 2023. Open year-round, it is Sicily's premier cultural institution with an orchestra, chorus, corps de ballet, youth ensembles, and stagecraft workshops.
