Vox Divina: Luciano Pavarotti Biopic in the Works

A new biopic about legendary Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti is in development. According to Deadline, Los Angeles-based production company Women Occupy Hollywood has acquired the rights to Vox Divina, a film project written and directed by Italian filmmaker Ivana Massetti, who has been working on it for two years.

Originally conceived as a series, the project has now evolved into a feature film. Vox Divina will trace Pavarotti’s journey from his childhood in Modena to his rise to global fame at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in the early 1970s.

Massetti describes Pavarotti as “the most beloved tenor in the world,” saying his “divine voice made opera accessible to the people.” During her research, she interviewed family members, including his daughters and wives, as well as close collaborators and friends.

Casting is currently underway. If completed, the film is expected to be released in 2027, marking the 20th anniversary of Pavarotti’s passing. It would be the first narrative film on his life, following Ron Howard’s 2019 documentary.
