Ralph Fiennes to Direct Eugene Onegin at Paris Opera

Ralph Fiennes is set to make his operatic directorial debut with a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Paris Opera during the 2025–26 season. The production will run from 26 January to 27 February 2026 at the Palais Garnier.

The cast includes baritone Boris Pinkhasovich as Onegin, soprano Ruzan Mantashyan as Tatyana, tenor Bogdan Volkov as Lensky, and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham as Madame Larina. The production will be conducted primarily by Semyon Bychkov, with set design by Michael Levine and costumes by Annemarie Woods.

Fiennes, 62, is best known for his extensive film and stage career, with three Academy Award nominations and a Tony Award for his performance as Hamlet in 1995. He previously played the title role in the 1999 film Onegin, directed by his sister Martha Fiennes.

The Paris Opera’s 2025–26 season will also feature new stagings of Aida, Die Walküre, Siegfried, and Antonia Bembo’s Ercole amante, as well as revivals including Claus Guth’s science fiction-inspired La Bohème and John Adams’ Nixon in China, starring Renée Fleming and Thomas Hampson.
